Chrome Extension Privacy Policy

OpenRay Scribe Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 5, 2026

This privacy policy applies only to OpenRay Scribe, the Chrome extension for user-initiated live transcription of microphone audio and selected Chrome tab audio. It does not cover the general OpenRay.ai website or other OpenRay projects.

01

What OpenRay Scribe does

OpenRay Scribe lets you start a transcription session from the Chrome extension popup. When you start a session, the extension requests microphone access and captures audio from the active Chrome tab for transcription. The extension does not record in the background.

Capture starts only after you choose to start a session. Capture stops when you stop the session, when the captured tab ends, or when capture fails.

02

Information handled by the extension

Microphone audio

OpenRay Scribe captures microphone audio only after you grant microphone permission and start a transcription session.

Selected tab audio and website content

OpenRay Scribe captures audio from the active Chrome tab selected for the session. This may include sounds, speech, video audio, or other audio content from that tab.

Transcript text

OpenRay Scribe receives partial and final transcript text from the configured transcription endpoint and labels transcript messages by source, such as microphone or tab audio.

Session metadata

OpenRay Scribe stores local session names, timestamps, duration, source labels, and transcript message timestamps so you can review prior sessions.

Extension settings

OpenRay Scribe stores local settings such as the configured transcription WebSocket endpoint.

03

Information not collected

OpenRay Scribe is not designed to collect the following categories of information:

  • Payment information
  • Authentication credentials
  • Precise location
  • Browsing history
  • Clicks, scrolls, mouse position, or keystrokes
  • Raw audio after a session ends

04

How information is used

OpenRay Scribe uses information only to provide and support its single purpose: live transcription of microphone and selected tab audio, with local transcript review.

  • Capture microphone and selected tab audio when you start a session.
  • Stream active-session audio to the configured transcription endpoint.
  • Display partial and final transcript text in the extension.
  • Save local transcript history so you can review previous sessions.
  • Save your selected transcription endpoint and related extension settings.
  • Operate, secure, debug, and improve OpenRay Scribe.

05

Audio streaming and local storage

OpenRay Scribe streams audio chunks during an active session to the configured transcription WebSocket endpoint. Raw audio is not saved locally by the extension after the session ends.

Transcript text and session metadata are stored locally in your browser so you can review prior sessions. The extension uses browser extension storage for settings and local browser storage for session history.

You can clear saved transcript history from the extension. You can also remove extension settings and local data by uninstalling OpenRay Scribe or clearing browser data for the extension.

06

How information is shared

We do not sell user data. We do not use OpenRay Scribe audio, transcripts, selected tab content, or extension data for advertising, creditworthiness, or lending purposes.

Configured transcription endpoint

During an active session, microphone audio and selected tab audio are streamed to the WebSocket transcription endpoint configured in OpenRay Scribe. If the endpoint is operated by OpenRay, OpenRay processes that audio only to provide transcription and related operational support. If you configure a third-party endpoint, that provider's own terms and privacy practices may apply.

Legal and security needs

We may disclose information if required by law or if necessary to protect users, OpenRay Scribe, OpenRay.ai, or our services from security, fraud, or abuse risks.

07

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

OpenRay Scribe uses Chrome extension permissions only to provide its disclosed single purpose: capturing microphone and selected tab audio for live transcription and local transcript review.

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

08

Your choices

  • You can choose not to start a transcription session.
  • You can deny or revoke microphone access in Chrome settings.
  • You can stop a session at any time from the extension.
  • You can clear saved transcript history in the extension.
  • You can change the transcription endpoint in extension settings.
  • You can uninstall OpenRay Scribe to remove extension access and local extension data.

09

Security and retention

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect information handled by OpenRay Scribe. Remote transcription endpoints must use secure WebSocket connections. Local development endpoints may use localhost connections.

Extension transcript history remains in your local browser until you delete it or uninstall the extension. Raw audio is not retained by the extension after a session ends.

10

Children

OpenRay Scribe is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through OpenRay Scribe. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us so we can take appropriate action.
